Telephone Subscriber Base Hits 30 Million

About 30 million people now have telephone lines in the country, according to the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mr Ernest Ndukwe.

Apparently, the figure covered both mobile and fixed line subscriptions and about 29 million people got their lines in the last four years.

Speaking at NetTel @ Africa conference, organised for Vice Chancellors of universities in Abuja, Ndukwe said that there was a need to integrate Information Communication Technology (ICT) into the curriculum of universities in order to meet the current demand in the telecom industry. He said that most of the top positions in the telecom companies were still being held by foreign experts due to the vacuum created by the short supply of skilled manpower in the industry.
