Celtel Commits N182b To Expansion

Celtel Nigeria has committed N182 billion to the expansion of its network as part of moves to improve the quality of services, the operating officer of the company, Mr. Lars Stork has said.

Speaking with reporters in Calabar, Stork said by this measure, the company hopes to increase its capacity to connect more customers and bring its services closer to more Nigerians. "I dare say that under this new initiative on partnership, it with the rural communities will extend beyond business to the actual ownership of and responsibility for our network facilities…” he said.

Stork spoke of the company’s determination to create value and make life better for Nigerians irrespective of where they live. He however regretted that the company’s network facilities were suffering from vandalisation and other forms of criminal attacks by nefarious elements in parts of the country. Stork said Celtel had put in place a number of support programmes including the training of Associate Distributors in business techniques, products and services.

These ADs, he said were provided with support in terms of motorbikes, point of sales materials, kiosks, targeted products and other sales support. "This is completed by the introduction of payphone, low cost handsets, lower recharge cards denominations and electronic airtime (MTU) among others," he said.
Asked why the Rural Acquisition Initiative (RAI) was introduced, Stork said it was because of the company’s desire to serve the people well.

"In Celtel, our business is serving our customers devotedly, effectively and satisfactorily. The partnership with our ADs and the rural communities by extension is aimed at achieving this goal," he said.
