Abia Fair Focuses On Global Business Deals  


The maiden edition of the Abia International Trade Fair, billed to kick-off from September 22 to October 1, would focus on the power of partnership in global business deals. The fair, according to the organizers, is aimed at promoting economic opportunities as well as bringing local and foreign exhibitors together to exchange business ideas while creating product awareness. Exhibitors from far and near are expected to participate at this year’s Fair.

While speaking to journalists in Lagos on the development, the Managing Director of Initiative Media Limited, organizers of the fair, Mr. Mike Uche Ndubisi said the fair is designed to uplift Nigeria’s trade relationship with outside world as well as ensuring accelerated development of commerce and industry by indicating fertile and strategic areas of investments.

"The exhibitors will definitely see the show as an opportunity to reinforce the policy of effective customer service through customer education", he said while noting that the fair would serve as an open market for both exhibitors, allied institutions and the general public. It is being organized in conjunction with the Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA), Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, State Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Nigeria Association of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) among other interested groups.

Ndubisi however said the repeal of laws inhibiting competitions, including the indigenization decree and deliberate promotion of investments are measures that could strengthen government’s resolve to create investor’s haven.

The organizers believe that the economy is a reservoir of investment potentials, going by its vast untapped resources, which provides so many opportunities for any investor with enormous human and material resources demanding attention and exploration backed by the population of over 120 million people.

While noting that the specter of collapsed infrastructure, under-capitalization and unemployment, which by and large have stagnated the economy. He said with the return to democratic government, the enabling climate is being created for both foreign and domestic investors.

‘With investments inflow into all sectors of the economy Nigeria has certainly positioned itself as a reliable partnership in international trade", Ndubisi stated.

And to ensure successful hosting of the fair, the organizers have planned to allocate spaces on sectoral basis, even as they urged Nigerians to utilize the opportunity created by the fair to promote their products.

On the construction of stands, they also warned exhibitors not to install or display materials to obstruct free movement of traffic or disfigure the environment in any manner that would embarrass the third party.

The highlight of the fair is the inclusion of a beauty pageant into the show, where Miss International Trade Fair (ITF) will be crowned. The prizes for the winner of the contest range from a brand new car to international modelling contract, scholarship scheme to a salary package of N1million. Forms for the pageant go for N5, 000. Other side attractions include fashion, comedy and hair shows, musical concerts and cultural display. Many people described this as an innovation designed to add glamour to the fair.
