The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) is currently wooing European investors into the nation’s housing sector. The acting Managing Director of Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Mr. Jebe Jemida, has said.
Three European investors have signified their intention to invest in Nigeria, Jemide said.
Speaking at a public lecture in Abuja, recently, he said one of the investors wanted to buy FHA’s 322 housing units in Ogun State while the others wanted to invest in Bayelsa State and Abuja respectively.
Jemide said: "This is a May Day celebration which the senior staff association has decided to put in place and they are wishing to address the general global economic meltdown and how it affect the construction of houses in country.
"We are using that same opportunity to launch the first edition of our PPP guidelines which is a work tool for investors into the housing and infrastructural sector with FHA. We are hoping that these guidelines will lead investors to identify what standard they need to have in order to partner with us.
"This has never happened within the authority, at my assumption of duty I found that lacking and I decided to bring that in place, and if you all may know, that I was in London about a week ago and all the guidelines we took there even though they were not launched at that time, were all taken up by investors and we are hoping to have some of the investors visit us sometimes next month.
"On a serious note we have about three investors. One of them is interested in the buying our estate at Ibadokun in Ogun State. We have about 322 housing units in that estate with about 30 acres left and he is so much willing to come to invest with us.
We met one that was interested in going to Bayelsa and my Minister was very delighted to have somebody wanting to come to Bayelsa to invest. And the third one wants to see how he will come into Abuja to do some investments.
"So we are still opening our website to have some investors come in, because at this point of our nation we need more funds to come in to and help us and that for us we think will be able to reduce the unemployment figures in this country because if you must know, with housing it creates room for employment for all spheres of the society and we must develop that issue and that is why we carried that crusade out to get more investors and we are still hoping to do more of it at this particular point in time.
"What we are trying to do is to get cheap funds which are available out side to bring in here to meet more housing needs because we are in deficit.
