Investors Commit N21.8 Billion to 2.5 Billion Shares In One Week

A turnover of 2.2 billion shares worth N21.82 billion traded in 49,794 deals was recorded last week.
The figure is in contrast to the 2.5 billion shares, valued at N26.8 billion exchanged in 50,466 deals of the preceding week.
The Banking sub-sector was the most active during the week with 1.3 billion shares worth N14.54 billion exchanged in 26,672 deals.
Volume in the Banking sub-sector was largely driven by shares of Wema Bank Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.
Trading in the shares of the three banks accounted for 682.6 million shares, representing 54.3 per cent of the subsector's turnover.
Just as in the preceding week, the Insurance subsector, boosted by activity in the shares of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc and Cornerstore Insurance Plc followed on the week's activity chart with a turnover of 366.44 million shares valued at N922.7 million traded in 5,067 deals.
The All-share Index rose by 0.45 per cent to close at 41,289,88, while the market capitalisation of the 203 listed equities closed higher at N5.85 trillion.
In all 60 stocks appreciated in price during the week, lower than the 73 of the preceding week.
Fifty-three stocks depreciated in price during the week, higher than the 34 stocks of the preceding week.
