Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the NNPC/CNL Joint Venture, has confirmed that it is temporarily suspending some non-essential work activities in its offshore operations in the Niger Delta.
The decision is coming on the heels of the abduction of some staff of the Company and attacks on its facilities in the Niger Delta which had led to stoppage of 57,000 barrels per day production.
"This is essential to help us continue to maintain a high priority on the safety and security of our workforce and facilities following increased challenges in the Niger Delta region. As a result, this will have an impact on numerous contract workers. There is currently no immediate impact on production", a statement issued on Saturday and signed by the Company's General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Mr. Femi Odumabo, said.
"This change in work activity level, mainly in drilling and construction, is a precautionary measure that is being taken as a result of recent security incidents in the region. We are working with all appropriate government agencies and community leaders in the region to improve the situation and expect to resume normal business operations as soon as possible".
The Company affirmed that the security and safety of its workforce, employees and contractors remains its highest priority.
