Daukoru Faults Current Fuel Distribution Channel

The Minister of Energy, Dr. Edmund Daukoru, on Thursday said the current strategy of bridging petroleum products through the Apapa depot facilities of oil-marketing companies is the most inefficient way of distributing fuel across the country.

Though he admitted that it was the only way to get product to the hinterland, he stressed that the current fuel scarcity could still be unabated for a while, noting that Kaduna and Warri refineries were completely down thus overstretching that of Port-Harcourt Refinery to meet domestic demand.

Daukoru explained that Mosimi, which was very strategic to import distribution in the hinterland, was currently out of service due to vandalisation. Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has suspended pumping of fuel from Atlas Cove jetty along the shoreline of Lagos to the Mosimi depot.
