Japan Grants Nigeria N648m For Power Sector

The Japanese Government on Friday granted Nigeria 574m Japanese Yen, about N648m to complement the Federal Government’s efforts in the execution of the ongoing National Rural Electrification Programme.

The donation brought the total contribution of the Japanese Government to the development of Nigeria’s power sector to N10.94bn.

The Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Toshitsugu Uesawa, stated this on Friday in Abuja at the signing and Exchange of Notes to commence the third phase of the project for rural electrification in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

Details of the project obtained by our correspondent indicated that government will provide N100m as counterpart funding towards the execution of the project which will involve the electrification of 14 villages in Ibedu Ibiaikot in Akwa Ibom State.
