Govt Plans N100b Boost for Power Supply

Nigeria's quest for more efficient power supply for consumption is set to be realised. Reason: The Federal Government has concluded plans to inject over N100 billion into various projects to resuscitate them and remove clogs in the power distribution networks. The scope of work for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for the distribution zones nationwide including the electrification of villages located within the vicinity of the seven power plants. Meanwhile, barring any disappointment in respect of gas supply, President Olusegun Obasanjo will by the end of this month, commission the 414 mega watts power station at Geregu. The project, valued at 195 million euros is said to be over 85 per cent ready for commissioning. Of this figure, only 12 million euros is reportedly outstanding in payment to the contractor. Power and Steel Minister, Senator Liyel Imoke, who concluded a special tour of the project in Ajaokuta on Tuesday, expressed delight that the project was almost ready to meet the November 30 completion date.
