Nigeria's Bilateral Trade Volume With China Hits $3.1 Billion

Volume of bilateral trade between Nigeria and China has hit $3.13 billion, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Xu Jianguo, has said.

Jianguo made the disclosure in an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja Wednesday and listed the areas of trade to include infrastructure, agriculture, communication, energy, education, health, aviation and aerospace.

Jianguo added that the economic and trade relations of both countries were developing well.
He further added that both countries have established strategic partnership, including political mutual trust, economic benefit and mutual support in international affairs. Jianguo noted that Nigeria's first man-made telecommunication satellite was launched with the assistance of the Chinese government this year.

"The Chinese government also provides assistance to Nigeria mainly in human resource training, anti-malaria medicines provision, water supply, establishment of hospitals and schools.
"The year 2007 is a great year for Sino-Nigerian friendly relations,'' he said.
Jianguo, who dispelled the fears on quality of Chinese products, said majority of these were qualified and good.

He explained further that 'Made in China' goods are of fine quality and low price, which was "the reason why Chinese were popular globally''.
He said that Chinese government was not unmindful of the negative impact the low quality products were creating.

Jianguo, however, said that illegal enterprises and businessmen from both China and other foreign countries should be held responsible. "The Chinese government attaches great importance to the quality of its products and has taken many measures to crack down on fakes,'' he said.
