President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua on Tuesday charged the National Council on Privatisation to fast-track reforms in the energy and transport sectors. Speaking at the inauguration of the Council in Abuja, Yar'Adua said the Council should also conclude on-going privatisation of various enterprises.
He said the Council, headed by Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, should ensure the institutionalisation of the reform and privatisation programme by establishing regulatory institutions. The President charged the Council to brace up for the challenge of imbuing the process with credibility.
Yar'Adua described the inauguration as a critical step in driving government's socio-economic agenda as encapsulated in his seven-point agenda. The President said in its pursuit of the best interest of the country, government was determined to drive the privatisation process forward.
