To prosecute the agriculture component of the seven-point agenda of the current administration, the Federal Government is to invest about N1 trillion in the sector, Minister of State for Agriculture and Water Resources, Mr. Ademola Seriki has disclosed.

A substantial part of the proposed funds, according to him, will be made available to farmers across the country through cooperative societies and unions to aid productivity, while a part would be deployed to assist private sector stakeholders. The minister, while delivering a keynote address to declare open the 4th National Cocoa Day celebration being hosted by the Ondo State government in Akure on Tuesday, said government was aware of the potentials in the country's agricultural sector to increase the indices of the economy.

Addressing an audience comprising representatives of all the 14 cocoa-producing states including the deputy-governors of Abia, Edo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti states and other stakeholders in the country's cocoa sub-sector, Seriki said government was already paying greater attention to the agricultural sector. He disclosed also that the growth could be expeditiously attained through partnerships with the private sector.
