The clarification was made on Friday by the Resident Media Consultant to the ICPC, Mr. Folu Olamiti.
He stated that he was aware that at least one petition from a civil society group, containing grave allegations of corruption against the former president was being handled by ICPC’s investigators.
“I can confirm to you that we are working on the petition. I can confirm that the ICPC is seriously looking into it,” Olamiti stated.
He said that the investigation might involve rigorous scrutiny.
The ICPC spokesman urged our reporter to “wait and see,” stressing that he could not say much on the matter.
Meanwhile, since last Tuesday when EFCC operatives stormed her Abuja residence in an attempt to pick her for questioning, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s whereabouts was still unknown.
The EFCC is sustaining a determined effort towards hearing her testimony on the N300m unspent fund of the Federal Ministry of Health.
A former Minister of Health, Prof. Adenike Grange, who resigned last month following the scandal surrounding the alleged sharing of N300m unspent allocation to the ministry, was slammed with a 56-count charge of conspiracy and theft by the EFCC.
Obasanjo-Bello, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health is being accused of collecting N10m from the N300m largesse, and thereby taking possession of proceeds of crime and conspiracy.
On Thursday, the Senate mandated its chief whip, Senator Kanti Bello, to seek out her whereabouts and report back to it on Tuesday in closed doors.
At the National Assembly, it was gathered that some members were quietly expressing reservations about how far ongoing public hearings and any other probe effort could go. |
