The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria has called for improvements in the study and practice of the profession.
The President of the association, Mr. Samuel Nzekwe, said this during the inauguration of the permanent secretariat of ANAN in Lagos on Monday.
He said the practice of the profession and proper management of finance were gaining newer grounds, which should be encouraged by all stakeholders in the sector.
He said, “The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria has raised the stakes, as far as the study and practice of accounting in Nigeria is concerned.
“What we are witnessing here today is not just an immediate occurrence. It is the product of long-term and focused planning by the leadership of the association, which had deemed it fit to embark on, and complete a befitting secretariat for our association’, Nzekwe said.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, who was represented by the Director of Administration and Finance in the Office of the Chief of Staff, Mr.Kunle Odubela, said that ANAN was leading the way as far as the progress of the Accounting profession was concerned.
He commended ANAN, saying that with the inauguration, the study and practice of accounting in Nigeria had gone to a new and better height.
He said, “On behalf of the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, I congratulate and commend strongly, the determination and willpower of ANAN, in making this project a reality.
“Apart from adding to the beauty of the Yaba environment in particular and Lagos in general, this edifice would go a long way to contribute to the knowledge of the Accounting profession in Nigeria.
“As you are aware, Lagos State is in the forefront in Nigeria, in providing qualitative and functional professional education for all the citizens of the state’, Fashola said.”
