 Market In Epe Division

The Lagos State Government has commissioned fish ponds, cassava processing centres and market for the benefit of the people of Epe division.

While commissioning the FADAMA II projects in Epe on behalf of the Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji said the projects were clear indication of the government's commitment towards assisting farmers with necessary facilities to produce food for both domestic and export purposes.

He stated that the government's gesture became necessary in view of Epe division's immense contribution to food security in the state especially in the area of cassava and yam tubers production.
Cassava production in the state, the Speaker pointed out has improved from less than 250 metric tonnes in 1999 to over half a million metric tonnes in December 2005, adding that coco-yam, yam and sweet potato recorded appreciable increase during the same period.

He also informed the gathering that government has put together an integrated agricultural development programme, named "Food for Life" of which the cassava processing centre was just one, saying that Epe division (comprising Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Odo Iraogunshi, Eredo, etc) has been selected as a major beneficiary of the 22 projects identified under the programme.

In his speech at the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya explained that the projects were part of government's efforts at alleviating poverty and empowering the people particularly those at the grassroots.

According to him, production of food remains evergreen in the programme designed to make people feel secured under the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
