FG Nets $3m From Grain Sales

The Federal Government has disclosed that it realised a total of three million US dollars from the sales of grains to the United Nations World FOOD Programme (WFP) last year, even as it has projected a total installed capacity of 300,000 metric tonnes of grains through its Strategic Food Reserve Programme at the completion of all its silos across the country.

It also said that some of the items purchased under the Buyer of Last Resort (BLR) were released to cushion the effect of high prices while a reasonable quantity  were made as donations to drought affected countries such as Chad, Niger, and Mozambique Republics by the Federal Government.

Addressing Journalists in Abuja Friday on Federal Government’s Programme on Buyer of Last Resort (BLR) and other Agricultural activities, Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Otunba Bamidele Dada who noted that last year’s metric tonnes stood at 150,000, said the government has kept a revolving amount of N1.9 billion to mop up for any case of eventuality of short fall in food production across the country.
