By Meshack Idehen

The Cross River State Government has declared its readiness to take eco-tourism to the next level, as it partners with major companies in the country to stage this year’s Calabar Christmas carnival.
Governor Liyel Imoke stated this in Lagos when he unveiled the logo for this year’s celebration and the first ever “Calabar carnival beauty pageant”.

He said that many companies including Globacom, Cadbury Plc, Intercontinental Bank Plc, FCMB, Fidelity Bank, Diamond Bank and several airlines had indicated interest to be part of the celebrations.
He said, “Calabar is the destination to be this Christmas. With the plans that the state government has made, alongside the multinationals, this is going to be the biggest event this side of the world this season”
Imoke told reporters that the economy of the state would receive a big boost, with the plans that the state government had made.

He said adequate security arrangements were in place to cover the period.
Also, as part of the carnival and celebrations of Christmas, a HIV/AIDS awareness walk would be organised to coincide with the World AIDS Day to let individuals and corporate organisations know of the plight of victims and come to their assistance.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Patrick Ugbe, “Companies and business organisations can count on receiving a huge return on whatever commitment is made to the success of the event.”.
