LBS Makes FT’s Top 50 Business Schools

The Financial Times of London on Wednesday, published its list of the top 50 business schools worldwide in the area of open enrolment executive education programmes.

For the first time, a Nigerian business school, the Lagos Business School, made the list. It is said to be the first time that an African business school outside South Africa, is included in the prestigious ranking.
The Financial Times rankings have a well deserved prestige. Business Week and the Financial Times stand out among such ranking endeavours.

While Business Week focuses on American schools, the Financial Times is considered by many is the pre-eminent international ranking. Its methodology is rigorous and is compiled on the basis of data from the schools themselves, participants in the programmes and third-party sources.

The total number of business schools in the world is estimated by the top accreditation agency to be around 10,000; new ones are created literally every week.

In the United Kingdom alone, there are said to be over 100 business schools and only four of them managed to be included among the top 50 worldwide in open enrolment programmes.
Even an economic giant like Germany, has no school in the latest FT ranking; only one Italian school is included and there are no schools from Eastern Europe or Russia.

No Asian school was included, though India, China and the Philippines have a good number of respected schools.
