The Federal Government inched a step closer to its dream of making the nation's airspace safer for flyers and passengers alike, following Thursday's official launch of Digicora 111 Radiosonde Upper Air Station by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET). The station, built at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, will among other things assist NIMET to determine dust concentration during harmattan season and mitigate cancellation of flights. More so, it will help in determining areas associated with thunder storms, lightening and squall line that affect aircraft during raining seasons. Launching the station in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation (Air Transportation), Alhaji Suleiman Kassim assured NIMET that the ministry would do all that is possible within budgetary provisions to ensure that similar stations were established in all the nation's airports as quickly as possible. The project was executed by the European Union (EU) under its African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analyses (AMMA) Integrated Project with counter funding from the Federal Government.
