Customs Appoints Standard Chartered Bank As Revenue Collector
9th NOV 2006
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has appointed Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria (SCBN), the Nigerian subsidiary of Standard Chartered as one of the collectors of Customs revenue on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The appointment culminates negotiations between the two organisations, which started only in July 2006 and had been on-going.
A contractual agreement detailing the terms and conditions of the appointment is being finalised by representatives of the two collaborating institutions.
The appointment was communicated in a correspondence to the Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria's Managing Director, Simon Millett entitled, "Appointment As Revenue Collecting Bank" and signed on behalf of the Comptroller General, NCS by S.O. Ogundeji, a Deputy Comptroller General, Tariff and Trade.
According to Patience Oniha, General Manager, Public Sector, SCBN: "This appointment will grow performance in the NCS revenue collection function, since we will deploy public sector revenue collection methodologies in other markets and climes in which our bank plays and which have delivered handsome results for the benefit of Nigeria and the NCS".
