The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Wednesday quizzed the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Soludo and the Chief Executive Officer of the African Finance Corporation (AFC), Mr. Austin Ometoroha over Nigeria's $480 million investment in the corporation.
President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua had on April 15 requested that the fund invested by the CBN governor be investigated by a five-man committee headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, who is the Head of Investigation in ICPC. A source at the ICPC on Wednesday revealed that Soludo arrived the commission's headquarters to explain his side of the story at about 10 a.m. with some top officials of the apex bank and left around 2p.m. Said the source: "He is the Chairman of the AFC and he has told us what his part in the fund is. We have asked him questions and all that we suppose to know. It is left for us to make our own deduction and report back to the Presidency who gave us three weeks for the investigation."
Former President Olusegun had directed that AFC be established to rival the African Development Bank after the country lost its chairmanship to Rwanda. The present administration has however, made known its intention to pull out Nigeria's investment from the corporation following speculations that Soludo did not get presidential approval before investing the funds. |
