Copyrights Body Woos NAFDAC, Seeks More Funds

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) is intensifying efforts to rid Nigeria of pirated materials as its Director General, Adebambo Adewopo on Monday asked for better funding of the Commission. Speaking during a visit to the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) headquarters, he said the Commission needed over N30 million to reactivate its Hologram system, a security device that helps in detecting pirated materials from original ones. The NCC chief said the visit was a part of the Commission's public enlightenment programme under the Strategic Action Against Piracy (STRAP) programme, piracy and substandard products war cannot be won in isolation .He therefore solicited the assistance of the Director General of NAFDAC, Dora Akunyili in the Commission's effort to combat piracy in the country. Responding, Akunyili described as gratifying the understanding that the two law enforcement organisations could work in tandem to fight a common cause and pledged NAFDAC's support and cooperation with NCC.
